Women as entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic
I think it is still a difficult country to be an entrepreneur and even more difficult to be a woman in business…
I am still the managing director of the public relations agency jwa prague sro that i started in 1991 here in the czech republic. I am also on the board of superbrands in the czech republic, and the chairman of the international business forum. I do plan to slow some of these things down a bit over the next couple of years (but i have been saying that for a while!). I am also involved in a few different start-up companies, both as a silent investment partner and in a more involved capacity.
My dreams have mostly been fulfilled in regard to work. But my big dream now is to start winning some of the senior tennis tournaments that I have been taking part in over the last year! I was a successful junior, but now I want to be a successful senior!!
To grow a thick skin, to be prepared to work very hard, and to realise that there is no such thing as ‚having it all’!
I am always keen to discuss and support the role of women in business!
I haven’t necessarily lost something financial that has turned into a profit, but I have had many situations that, at the time, were very difficult, but in the end turned out to be for the best.
I work as hard at my physical fitness as I do at my regular work. I run, go to the gym, play tennis. People used to say to me that I was ‚lucky to have time‘ to do these things… but sometimes I do them at 6.00 in the morning or late at night. The point is that I have to recharge somehow. When it is your own company, it is impossible to really be away from work (even now, when I am on holiday, I still spend at least 3 or 4 hours a day on my computer…).. So there needs to be something that stops me going mad. For me, that is working out!
I love what i do, but I can’t say I am always happy at work. sometimes external influences can make life difficult (clients!). But I think it is important to understand that there is no job in the world that is lovely and fluffy every day. So to work at something that you like doing most of the time, is pretty good.
